On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Birria El Oiga” located at Camino Viejo a Tecate 53, Los Venados, 22123. On this occasion, he tried two tacos: a birria taco priced at $1.76 dollars ($30 pesos) and a quesabirria priced at $5.29 dollars ($90 pesos).
Flour Quesabirria
This taco has beef birria, onion, cilantro, beans, red salsa, asadero cheese, and it is served on two flour tortillas. The first thing to note about this taco was the two tortillas, which were made of flour and were drenched in the birria’s grease.
When he looked inside the quesabirria (cheese and birria taco), Chef Danny claimed that it was very heavy. After he took his first bite, he claimed that the salsa was very spicy but also very flavorful, just like the meat. The onion and the cilantro added a good contrast and the cheese, as it was very fatty, also stood out due to its flavor, and this is why this taco gets a rating of 8.8.
Price: $5.29 dollars ($90 pesos)
Birria Taco
This taco has beef birria, beans, onion, cilantro, red salsa, and it is served on two corn tortillas. This taco’s tortillas were fried on one side, which is quite usual with these tacos.
Though the tortillas of this taco had a medium size, the maize here was very subtle. The thing that stood out was the meat with its soft texture and its seasoning. Unlike the quesabirria, the salsa’s spiciness was not felt that much. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.4.
Price: $1.76 dollars ($30 pesos)
