“Los Poblanos Birrierías” in Tecate serves a gigantic cheese taco with a devilish salsa

Chef Danny was surprised due to the huge cheese taco which had a lot of cheese

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tecate, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “El Poblano Birrierías” located at Carretera Libre Tijuana-Tecate, El Refugio. On this occasion, he tried two tacos: a birria taco priced at $1.56 dollars ($29 pesos) and a charred birria cheese taco priced at $3.22 dollars ($60 pesos).

Birria Taco

This taco has beef birria, onion, cilantro, huevona salsa, and is served on a store bought corn tortilla. The tortilla was medium-sized and the taco was “stuffed”, which means that it had a good amount of meat and ingredients.

When he tried it, Chef Danny said that it was a lighter birria that didn’t have a lot of grease and that it is ideal for people who like their birria with not a lot of seasoning. The tortilla had a good corn flavor and did not overwhelm the palate. In addition, the salsa added freshness to the taco, which is why this taco gets a rating of 7.9.

Price: $1.56 dollars ($29 pesos)

Charred Birria Cheese Taco

This taco has cheese, beef birria, onion, cilantro, huevona sauce, bird beak’s chili oil, and is served on two packaged corn tortillas. The first thing to note about this taco was its huge size. When he grabbed it, our host realized that the two tortillas were laid out next to each other instead of one over the other, making the taco so big it was hard to know where to begin.

When he tried it, Chef Danny claimed that this taco would be ideal to cure a hangover because the bird beak’s chili oil was used to charr the griddled meat, which makes it extra spicy. Chef Danny called it a devilish salsa. The cheese took over all of the meat; in addition, our host was unable to appreciate the flavor of the meat due to the cheese and the sauce. What he was able to taste was that the taco was dry due to the charred meat. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.0.

Price: $3.22 dollars ($60 pesos)
