Dare to try a giant quesabirria by “Tacos El Moreno” in Tijuana

Chef Danny also tried a birria taco with two very fried tortillas

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos El Moreno” located at De los Obreros, Infonavit La Mesa. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a birria taco priced at $1.35 dollars ($27 pesos) and a quesabirria priced at $3.75 dollars ($75 pesos).

Quesabirria (Birria with Cheese Taco)

This taco has beef birria, asadero cheese, onion, cilantro, and is served on a corn tortilla. The first thing to note about this taco was the incredible big size of the tortilla. When it was folded, it was bigger than Chef Danny’s hand, and though it was thin, its size has no comparison.

When he took his first bite, our host stated that the maize flavor wasn’t very present due to its thinness, however, as it was drenched in birria grease, it had a lot of flavor. The meat had a soft texture, though Danny thought that it was missing some. The salsa is quite mild and the cheese had a good flavor. This is why this quesabirria gets a rating of 8.5.

Price: $3.75 dollars ($75 pesos)

Birria Taco

This taco has beef birria, onion, coriander, sauce, and is served on two corn tortillas. Both tortillas were drenched in the birria’s grease, they were very fried, and were medium-sized.

In this taco, Chef Danny was able to feel the salsa’s spiciness. Because the tortillas are so fried, it means that the flavor of the taco and the corn has more intensity. As it is a smaller taco, the meat’s soft texture was more easily identifiable, but it was drier than the quesabirria. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.0.

Price: $1.35 dollars ($27 pesos)
