Quesadilla with chicken by “Mr. Pollo” in Tijuana gets a 7.1 for using watery guacamole

This taco’s flavor was quite neutral and the main ingredient didn’t stand out

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Mr. Pollo” located at Parque Azteca Norte, Playas de Tijuana. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a chicken taco priced at $1.5 dollars ($30 pesos) and a flour quesadilla with chicken priced at $2 dollars ($40 pesos).

Chicken Taco

This taco has chicken with some type of adobo, purple onion, red sauce with chiltepin chili pepper with bird beak’s chili, and is served on a corn tortilla. When he heard about these ingredients, our host got scared but still decided to take a bite when he noticed how spicy it really was. He rated it an 8.8/10 on the spiciness scale.

Regarding the chicken, Chef Danny was able to feel its different pieces such as the breast, thigh, and leg. These pieces made the chicken flavor greater adding some softness. Another plus was the protein’s juiciness, though it was cooked with coal. The vegetables created a nice contrast. The only negative thing was the packaged tortilla which was dry and hard. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.5.

Price: $1.5 dollars ($30 pesos)

Chicken Quesadilla

This taco has coal-cooked chicken, cabbage, purple onion, watery guacamole, asadero cheese, and is served on a fried flour tortilla. When he took his first bite, Chef Danny said that this taco’s flavor was quite neutral.

The flour tortilla was thin and it didn’t have much flavor. The cheese was greasy and due to its amount, it didn’t overpower the other ingredients. The chicken on this taco didn’t taste much like coal, unlike the previous taco with more subtle touches. The watery guacamole only made the taco more humid, which didn’t add taste at all. Due to this lack of flavor and the main ingredient not standing out, this taco gets a rating of 7.1.

Price: $2 dollars ($40 pesos)
