"Camarada's" in Tijuana gets a 7.0 due to their "Mar y Tierra" taco with salty meat

Chef Danny did not really like their Thousand Island style dressing

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to "Camaradas" located at Blvd. Lázaro Cárdenas 2032, Otay Constituyentes. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a Mar y Tierra taco priced at $6 dollars ($100 pesos) and a milanesa taco priced at $3.33 dollars ($55 pesos).

Mar y Tierra Taco

This taco has shrimp, meat, cilantro, avocado, Thousand Island dressing, cheese crust, and it is served on two handmade corn tortillas. When he took his first bite, Chef Danny said that in the tortillas the maize flavor really stood out; they were also hydrated well.

The shrimp was cooked "to the limit", as, though it was cooked well, it felt a bit dry, and it only had salt and a little bit of butter. On the other hand, the meat was salty. Chef Danny said that it had no marinade and it tasted like it had been griddled and then seasoned with salt and pepper, which was a little too much. Chef Danny thought the dressing was chipotle, but it was actually a Thousand Island style dressing which added some sweet touches.

He said that for those who like their food bittersweet, this taco will be perfect. However, he would have preferred something spicy to highlight the proteins. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.0.

Price: $6 dollars ($100 pesos)

Milanesa Taco

This taco has beef milanesa, pico de gallo, salsa, poblano chili pepper slices, and it is served on two handmade corn tortillas. Before he tried it, Chef Danny said that this taco looked "quite delicious and ready to be eaten."

The pepper slices were cooked well, as they had a soft texture and were well seasoned. The milanesa had a good color as it was breaded in a way that it did not overwhelm the palate. The meat was soft and broken down when chewed. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.2.

Price: $3.33 dollars ($55 pesos)
