Shrimp covered in potato chips? Unique flavor of shrimp taco by "Mariscos El Mazateño" surprises in Tijuana

Chef Danny claimed that the batter of this protein was quite light

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to "Mariscos El Mazateño" located at Calz. del Tecnológico 473, Tomas Aquino. On this occasion, he tried two tacos: a shrimp taco priced at $3.93 dollars ($65 pesos) and one called "El Super Mazateño" priced at $6.36 dollars ($105 pesos).

Shrimp Taco

This taco has batter-fried shrimp, pico de gallo, red salsa, and it is served on two corn tortillas. Before he tried it, Chef Danny highlighted that it was a "busty" taco because the shrimps were "super inflated" due to them being batter-fried, which made them quite crunchy.

When he took his first bite, Chef Danny said that he knew that the shrimp had been covered in crunchy potato fries. In addition, the batter was very light, but instead of being fat and heavy, it felt light and airy. This allowed him to detect the flavor of the shrimp. The vegetables added freshness but for our host the taco was missing something so that it could "cover all the bases." Since the tortilla had been griddled and did not have any kind of grease, "it came up short." This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.8.

Price: $3.93 ($65 pesos)

“Super Mazateño” Taco

This taco has spicy shrimp, cheese, and it is served on a flour tortilla. The size of the tortilla is the one regularly used for burritos, and when he grabbed it, Chef Danny noticed that it had a lot of butter.

When he tried it, he was surprised by its spiciness, which wasn't very strong, but it caught in his throat when he inhaled it. He added that the tortilla "was quite good" and that it had a good texture. For obvious reasons, the shrimp stood out in this taco. The cheese wrapped the protein and the grease in which the shrimps were drenched. This grease was made of butter with chili peppers. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.4.

Price: $6.36 dollars ($105 pesos)
