“La Misteriosa” food truck in Tijuana serves a marlin quesadilla “overloaded with flavor”

Chef Danny also tried a breaded rock shrimp taco

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “La Misteriosa Mariscos” located at Gobernador Lugo 9650, Davila, 22044. On this occasion, he tried two tacos: a marlin quesadilla priced at $3.71 dollars ($65 pesos) and a breaded rock shrimp taco priced at $4.28 dollars ($75 pesos).

Breaded Rock Shrimp Taco

This taco has breaded rock shrimps, cabbage, pico de gallo, cream, avocado, red salsa, and it is served on a corn tortilla. Before he tried it, Chef Danny said that the salsa was quite spicy which is why he added some of it “very carefully”.

When he took his first bite, Chef Danny pointed out that the breaded had a good flavor and it was crunchy. The shrimp’s flavor got lost as there was more breaded content than protein. The salsa was very spicy, even though he only added a few drops. The tortilla had been steamed so it dried and became leathery, something that Chef Danny didn’t really like. He added that the crunchiness was good, however, it was still very limited, and there were too many vegetables in the taco. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.3.

Price: $4.28 dollars ($75 pesos)

Marlin Quesadilla

This quesadilla has marlin stew, chipotle dressing, cheese, avocado, and it is served on a flour tortilla. When he opened the quesadilla, Chef Danny said that just by seeing the ingredients he knew that it would have a lot of flavor; also when he grabbed it, it felt quite heavy.

When he tried it, Chef Danny confirmed this theory. The cheese had a good texture and firmness, and the flavors of the ingredients in the stew (tomato puree, smoked marlin, California pepper, cilantro, and onion) were quite present. The chipotle dressing gave the taco a greater push and the tortilla did not overwhelm the palate, but it did what it is supposed to do and wrapped the ingredients. He added that the quesadilla was “overloaded with flavor” which is why it gets a rating of 8.0.

Price: $3.71 dollars ($65 pesos)
