“Tacos El Jockey” in Tijuana serves authentic guacamole on its adobada, chorizo, and asada taco

Chef Danny also tried an arrachera taco

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos El Jockey” located at Av. Hipódromo 15, Hipódromo. On this occasion, he tried two tacos: an arrachera taco priced at $2.57 dollars ($45 pesos) and another taco called “El Tigre” priced at $1.88 dollars ($33 pesos).

Taco “El Tigre”

This taco has chorizo, adobada, carne asada (grilled beef), guacamole, huevona salsa, onion, cilantro, and it is served on a store-bought corn tortilla. When he tried it, Chef Danny claimed that the sauce was spicy, as if serrano pepper had been added to the mix, so he recommended people to add this salsa in moderation.

The tortilla was thick and had a good texture and thickness; the maize was a little subtle. The adobada and chorizo stood out as they are very seasoned meats (which are easily identified by the color). However, the asada meat was lost amongst the ingredients. Something that Chef Danny really liked was the avocado; as it was pure avocado flesh, one could feel its creaminess. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.4.

Price: $1.88 dollars ($33 pesos)

Arrachera Taco

This taco has arrachera (hanger steak), onion, coriander, huevona salsa, guacamole, and it is served on a handmade corn tortilla. Before he tried it, Chef Danny said that one could notice that the tortilla was handmade at first glance and that it felt a little drier.

When he took his first bite, Chef Danny was able to taste the smoked flavor of the coal. The arrachera was cooked correctly, as it was still juicy and its cut was thick, which helped him to appreciate the flavor even more. The avocado flesh, just like in the previous taco, added a punch due to its creaminess. In this taco, the salsa wasn’t that spicy which intensified the flavor. Despite it being made in that moment, the tortilla was lacking humidity and hydration, which is why this taco gets a rating of 8.5.

Price: $1.88 dollars ($33 pesos)
