“Tacos de Pescado Filips” in Tijuana disappoints after serving fish with burned batter

In addition, the flavor of the corn tortillas dominated in the taco

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos de Pescado Filips” located at C. 16 de Septiembre, Tomas Aquino. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a fish taco priced at $1.38 dollars ($25 pesos) and a marlin taco priced at $2.22 dollars ($40 pesos).

Fish Taco

This taco has battered fish, cabbage, pico de gallo, cream, red salsa, and it is served on two corn tortillas. When he tried it, Chef Danny said that the tortillas were quite soft.

He said that the batter was burned, which worsened the taco a little bit. This is why he decided to remove it, and once it was removed, the fish had a lot of flavor. Both the pico de gallo and the cabbage were lost in the midst of all the ingredients. The flavor of the corn tortillas dominated in the taco unlike the salsa, which did not stand out as it wasn’t spicy. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.8.

Price: $1.38 dollars ($25 pesos)

Marlin Taco

This taco has marlin stew, asadero cheese, pico de gallo, cabbage, cream, and it is served on two corn tortillas. Unlike the previous taco, these tortillas were a little bit fried. Chef Danny said that this taco felt heavy due to the number of ingredients.

Despite not having a normal color, the marlin stew with tomato, onion, and a little bit of tomato puree had a good flavor and Chef Danny was able to taste the smoked fish. In addition, the cheese was very greasy with a lot of flavor. The tortilla did not dominate in this case due to the marlin. Our host added that this taco needed more vegetables which is why it gets a rating of 7.5.

Price: $2.22 dollars ($40 pesos)
