“Tacos El Cuñado” are saved by their delicious handmade corn tortillas

Their carne asada, however, did not have a lot of flavor

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tecate, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos El Cuñado” located at Av. Universidad, Colonia Eustolio Guajardo. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a head taco and a carne asada taco, both priced at $1.46 dollars ($27 pesos).

Carne Asada Taco

This taco has carne asada (grilled beef), onion, coriander, beans, red salsa, aguamole (guacamole diluted with too much water), and is served on two handmade corn tortillas. The first thing to highlight about this taco was the tortillas, as Chef Danny claimed that one could see that they were handmade due to their thickness and softness.

When he tried it, he confirmed his theory as the tortillas were quite soft, hydrated well, and had noticeable maize touches present. However, the meat, the salsa, and the aguamole were lacking in flavor. The meat was juicy, but it was only seasoned with salt. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.8.

Price: $1.46 dollars ($27 pesos)

Head Taco

This taco has beef head, onion, cilantro, green salsa, and is served on two handmade corn tortillas. When he tried it, Chef Danny highlighted the excellent thickness of the corn tortillas.

The meat was seasoned, something that is not very common in most instances. The beef head had quite a neutral flavor in the tacos. The salsa had a good texture that added a great balance as it wasn’t very sour. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.3.

Price: $1.46 dollars ($27 pesos)
