Aguamole in asada taco by “El Amigo Dumas” disappoints in Tecate

One of their tacos had a salsa with great consistency and sourness

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tecate, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “El Amigo Dumas” located at Av. Miguel Hidalgo, Moderna, 21450. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a carne asada taco and a cheek taco both priced at $1.90 dollars ($35 pesos).

Carne Asada Taco

This taco has carne asada (grilled beef), onion, cilantro, aguamole, and is served on a handmade corn tortilla. The first thing to note about this taco was that Chef Danny was able to detect that this tortilla had been made here: to begin with, it was made irregularly (it wasn’t completely round) and it was thicker compared to manufactured tortillas.

The meat didn’t have any marinade, it was seasoned only with salt and pepper , and its texture was a little bit hard, despite having a thicker cut than usual. The avocado was aguamole (guacamole diluted with too much water), which was very diluted. The corn tortilla had a good corn flavor, but it was a little bit dry. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.0.

Price: $1.90 dollars ($35 pesos)

Cheek Taco

This taco has cheek, onion, cilantro, green salsa, and is served on two store bought corn tortillas. The tortillas were quite soft, and this is because they were steamed where the meat is cooked.

When he tried it, he confirmed what he had mentioned as the meat (which had a subtle salty level) was also very soft, which created a “super soft” taco, to the point that it wasn’t necessary to chew it as it broke down in his mouth. The salsa had good consistency and sourness, creating quite an interesting contrast. The onion and cilantro added freshness. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.5.

Price: $1.90 dollars ($35 pesos)
