Meat patty taco by “Tacos Varios Río” in Tijuana gets a rating of 7.1 due to lack of flavor

Chef Danny also tried a milanesa taco

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos Varios Río” located at Misión de Mulegé, in the corner of Paseo de los Héroes, Zona Urbana Río Tijuana. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a milanesa taco and a tortita de carne (meat patty) taco, both priced at $1.47 dollars ($28 pesos).

Milanesa Taco

This taco has milanesa (breaded meat), pico de gallo, beans, rice, “huevona” green salsa, and is served on two corn tortillas. The first thing to note about this taco is its big size.

When he took his first bite, Chef Danny said that the salsa was very sour. However, it was the ideal complement for this taco due to how dry the two tortillas mixed with the milanesa (which were breaded with a lot of flavor). Another thing that really helped this taco was the pico de gallo, which is why it gets a rating of 8.8.

Meat Patty Taco

This taco has meat patty (tortita de carne), beans, rice, pickled purple onion with habanero, and is served on two corn tortillas. The tortita had a relatively small size that covered half of the taco. Chef Danny decided to put the fried bird’s beak chile aside, since the onion already had habanero.

Though the patties were juicy, they were lacking in flavor. The pickled onion created a good contrast with the light batter and the meat’s softness. The tortillas had a good thickness, however, overall, the taco was missing a “push”, which is why it gets a rating of 7.1.
