Don't be surprised! Road at Vía Rápida Poniente in Tijuana will be closed due to sinking

This occurred due to fires in drainage pipes

The Municipal Administration of Tijuana, through the Secretariat of Territory, Urban, and Environmental Development (SDTUA), detected in time the creation of sinking in an area at Vía Rápida Poniente at the level of Puente Negro; this was thanks to the city's surveillance and monitoring work.

That's why, by instructions of Mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez, the damages caused by vandalism will be repaired starting in the evening of Friday, March 1. These repairs will last 3 days so that the road can be reopened on Monday, March 4.

The head of the Municipal Agency of Projects and Urban Infrastructure (DOIUM), Marco Antonio Campoy Arce, revealed that his staff will carry out repair work of the drainage pipes and slob where the fires began.

He also said that the road will need to be closed partially in a space of 300 lineal meters for 3 days in an eastbound direction.

The municipal official shared that fires in drainage pipes are the most common reason as to why sinkholes occur, as in 2023, they were the origin of 70% of sinking in roads.

"Our mayor Montserrat Caballero has instructed us to constantly monitor the city to always look out for the security of all Tijuana natives and with that goal we are working, that's why we are continuously working to repair this part of the road as soon as possible," Campoy Arce stated.

He also said that the area will be cordoned off and blocked with concrete walls to ensure the safety of drivers. In addition, signs indicating alternate routes to clear traffic in the area will be installed.

Campoy Arce explained that traffic at Vía Rápida Poniente will be moved to Vía Lenta with continuous flow to free the work area so that the road can be incorporated as normal once again 300 meters ahead.

Regarding the lane at Vía Lenta, it will be incorporated into Bulevar Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada so that it can later be redirected towards Bulevar Federico Benítez where drivers can choose their route to come back to Vía Lenta.

The 24th Municipal Administration of Tijuana is asking citizens for patience and to drive carefully and pedestrians are being asked to avoid the area where repair work will take place.
