Tasty and monstrous New York taco by "Tacos Los Perrones" delights in Tijuana

Chef Danny also tried a Chihuahua taco

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to "Tacos Los Perrones" located at Blvd. Gral Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada 1511, Zona Río. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a New York taco priced at $2.06 dollars ($34 pesos) and a Chihuahua arrachera taco priced at $2.36 dollars ($39 pesos).

Chihuahua Taco

This taco has arrachera meat, cheese, onion, cilantro, avocado, green charred salsa, and it is served on a flour tortilla. Two things to note about this taco is that the meat was cut in good-sized slices and the green salsa looked very good.

When he tried it, Chef Danny said that the taco was quite soft as he saw that the arrachera pieces are placed in a pot in their own broth, which keeps them humid. However, if this is done for too long, it can end up tasting like boiled meat, which makes it lose the grilled essence and flavor. The salsa had a good level of sourness and flavor. The avocado flesh was a good addition and he could tell that the flour tortilla was homemade. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.1.

Price: $2.36 dollars ($39 pesos)

New York Taco

This taco has a New York steak, avocado, beans, onion, cilantro, and it is served on a handmade corn tortilla. The first thing to note about this taco was its "monstrous" size both for the tortilla (which had good thickness) and the amount of ingredients served.

Chef Danny did not know how to lift the taco due to its great size. After trying it, he thought the meat had been served in slices, but it was actually chopped up and had a very present smoked flavor. He claimed that the meat plus the handmade corn tortilla plus the amount of avocado flesh made this an "amazing combination." Chef Danny was also able to detect that the meat had been previously marinated before being grilled and this is why this taco gets a rating of 8.9.

Price: $2.06 dollars ($34 pesos)
