A kid suffered a significant injury this past weekend while an off-road race was taking place in Ejido Jacume, in the municipality of Tecate, Baja California and very close to the US border.

CBP shared that on Saturday, August 5, a group of people came to the southern border near Jacumba, California.

This crowd came from the Jacume Grand Prix, an off-road competition whose 2nd edition took place last weekend between Friday, August 4 and Sunday, August 6.

The agents listened to these people and found out that a 6-year-old had been run over by an off-road vehicle during the races.

Checking the minor, they realized he had a head injury and they realized he needed immediate medical care. Due to the nature of this injury, and the extremely remote location they were at, CBP agents decided to allow the injured boy and his father to cross the border into the United States.

They were driven to the Jacumba airport and then were taken by helicopter to a medical center in San Diego to receive additional medical care. Chief Patrol Agent Patricia McGurk-Daniel praised the agents' actions:

I am very proud of the work that our agents do every single day to rapidly respond to emergencies and provide life-saving aid to those in need. Our agents are dedicated to the preservation of human life and unwavering in their commitment to protecting the communities we serve.

In this fiscal year, San Diego Sector Border Patrol agents have responded to over 4,700 calls for help.

CBP agents treat injured boy at the San Diego border and are shot

The case of this boy that was run over in Jacume is not the first time that CBP has been involved in situations to safeguard the health of children.

On May 15, 2023, a 4-year-old boy was crossing the border wall between Tijuana and San Diego, very close to the border. He was let go from very high up by the same individual who was trying to enter illegally into the country.

While the agents were taking care of the child, they were shot, apparently from the Mexican side.
