Super Especial has the biggest carne asada torta with extra avocado in Tijuana

This torta had a great size despite it being divided in half

On this episode of Una Mordida Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Super Especial” located at Av. Centro Comercial 17216, Otay Constituyentes. On this occasion he tried something different: a carne asada torta priced at $7.94 dollars ($135 pesos).

Carne Asada Torta

This torta has carne asada (grilled beef), lettuce, tomato, avocado, yellow cheese, ham, and it is served on a telera bread. The first thing to note about the famous torta of this establishment was its great size.

When he tried it, Chef Danny claimed that he was not able to taste the bread when he took his first bite due to the other ingredients, especially the lettuce which had completely overwhelmed his palate. The cheese and ham added a fatty taste to the torta. When he took his second bite, he noticed that the meat had been seasoned with salt and pepper, but it needed some marinade. As it had been griddled, it had a different flavor from meat cooked in charcoal.

The ham used was from a very delicious turkey. The meat was cut in thin slices and Chef Danny was not able to taste the nerve or fat. Chef Danny claimed that what he liked in this torta was the great amount of avocado that was used; this is why this torta gets a rating of 8.7.

Price: $7.94 dollars ($135 pesos)
