With support from the federal government, it is planned for the new alma mater of Baja California to open at the end of March in San Quintin

Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the governor of Baja California, supervised the construction progress at Universidad Intercultural de San Quintin, which will have an education model that will prioritize inclusion, especially for the native people of Baja California and other Mexican regions.

Marina del Pilar highlighted and thanked the coordination with the federal government, led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, as in this first stage of the project more than 63 million pesos are being invested. They were collected with the federal administration as it all represents an essential boost for higher education in Baja California.

Marina del Pilar stated that the values of the Fourth Transformation always prioritize the wellbeing and inclusion of social groups who had been previously ignored by authorities, which is why the intercultural approach of education is another step in the development of a fairer state that promotes dignity for all of its inhabitants, regardless of their origin.

“We are going to inaugurate this university at the end of March, why is why we thank our President Andrés Manuel López Obrador all his support so that this university becomes a reality for the people of San Quintin,” she said.

In her visit to the sixth municipality, the state governor met with representatives of Mexico’s native peoples who live in this region and provided actions to benefit their community, especially through the promotion of their rights and creating awareness in society about the importance of knowledge and the native cultures of Baja California and Mexico.

For his part, the Director of the Institute of Physical Education Infrastructure of Baja California (INIFE), Javier Urbalejo Cinco, explained that the first building built will have a capacity to shelter 400 students and will have 12 classrooms, three labs, a computer center, two restroom spaces, a vice-chancellor’s office, seven administrative departments, seven workspaces for teachers, common areas, and an entry terrace.

Besides the first building, INIFE will also be focused on building a lunch area, which will allow this university to begin operations with a first generation of students that will receive an innovative learning process based on human rights and practical knowledge for the region’s productive sector.
