“Mariscos Mar Culichi” in Tijuana gets a rating of 6 for their salty batter

Chef Danny also tried a shrimp taco with spicy octopus

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Mariscos Mar Culichi” located at Av. Del Fuerte 15526, Campestre Murua, 22455. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a battered shrimp taco priced at $2 dollars ($40 pesos) and a shrimp taco with spicy octopus priced at $4.25 dollars ($85 pesos).

Battered Shrimp Taco

This taco has cabbage, purple onion, battered shrimp, chipotle dressing, and is served on a handmade corn tortilla. When he took his first bite, Chef Danny stated that though the battered shrimp had a good flavor, it was very salty.

The shrimp had a small size, which is why its flavor got lost in between the batter. In addition, the tortilla had a hard texture, however, this hardness was not caused by it being fried, but because it was somewhat leathery. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.1.

Price: $2 dollars ($40 pesos)

Shrimp Taco with Spicy Octopus

This taco has spicy shrimp, spicy octopus, asadero cheese, and is served on two handmade corn tortillas. The first thing to note about this taco is that its tortillas were fried well.

When he took his first bite, Chef Danny highlighted that the taco tasted a lot like butter, something that overwhelmed his palate and made him understand why the tortillas were so fried. This taco’s shrimp was big and the octopus was cooked well, however, the butter overwhelmed the entire taco. The sauce also wasn’t spicy at all. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.3.

Price: $4.25 dollars ($85 pesos)
