Una Mordida Tacos is traveling through different municipalities of Baja California to taste the gastronomic diversity that this state has. On this occasion, the premiere of Una Mordida Tacos Ensenada begins with our host, Chef Danny Betancourt visiting Tacos Fénix located at Espinosa 451, Obrera 22830. Here he tried two tacos: a battered fish taco priced at $1.1 dollars ($22 pesos) and a battered shrimp taco priced at $1.40 dollars ($28 pesos).
Battered Shrimp Taco
This taco has battered shrimp, cabbage, pico de gallo, sour cream, green jalapeño sauce, and is served on a big corn tortilla of quite a considerable size. The sauce was quite light and not very spicy which was nice, and the vegetables are classic and common for this type of tacos.
The key to these tacos are both the tortilla and the protein with its battering. The tortilla was soft and distinguished itself at first bite. Though the battering had a lot of flavor, it was a little thick and was undermining the shrimp’s flavor. This, however, did not affect the overall effect of the taco which is why it gets a rating of 8.0.

Battered Fish Taco
This taco has battered fish, pico de gallo, cabbage, purple onion, bird beak’s chile sauce, chipotle cream, and is served on the same tortilla as the last taco. Both the tortilla and the fish are quite big. The first thing that Danny highlighted was the sauce’s flavor which he considers must have a special condiment so that the tomato has that kind of intensity and is not too spicy.
The vegetables added a nice touch of freshness. Another thing to highlight is the battered fish’s good flavor. Though the tortilla had a good texture, flavor, size, and humidity, it didn't hold on and it ended up breaking with the second bite, which is why this taco gets a rating of 8.2.
Price: $1.1 dollars ($22 pesos)
