On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Taco-N-Todo” located at Av. Aguascalientes 8591, Juárez. On this occasion he tried two tacos: an arrachera taco priced at $3.25 dollars ($65 pesos) and a chorizo taco priced at $1.75 dollars ($35 pesos).
Arrachera Taco
This taco has arrachera meat, avocado, pico de gallo, charred Mexican husk tomato sauce, and is served on a handmade corn tortilla. The first thing Chef Danny noticed was that the tortilla was quite thick, had a good maize flavor, and was cooked in coal before being used for the taco.
The sauce was quite spicy, but Chef Danny was able to identify its charred ingredients. Though the meat had a good texture and juiciness, Danny didn’t feel that it was marinated correctly. The avocado ended up being half watery guacamole: it wasn’t completely diluted, but it also wasn’t pure avocado flesh. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.1.
Price: $3.25 dollars ($65 pesos)
Chorizo Taco
This taco has chorizo, avocado, peanut sauce, purple onion, and is served on a handmade corn tortilla. When he took his first bite, Chef Danny was surprised with how spicy the sauce was, giving it a score of 9.1/10 on the spiciness scale.
The Spanish chorizo flavor was also a highlight since it had great seasoning and spices. The tortilla, just like in the previous taco, had good thickness, humidity, and maize taste. The onion’s acidity was a good match with the chorizo. Chef Danny stated that the sauce was optional so that those who may be scared of spicy food will be able to eat this taco. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.9.
Price: $1.75 dollars ($35 pesos)
