Speed limit is exceeded at Baja 500 in Ensenada

On this new episode of Baja Window to the South, Baja California’s famous international race “Baja 500” was the main topic

Baja Window to the South hosts Olga Sánchez de la Vega and Scott Koenig enjoyed a great day by taking part in the adrenaline-fueled event Baja 500, a traditional race that occurs in Baja California that gathers racers from all over the world.

With over 50 years of existence, each season, off-road races and point-based races become the identity symbol of Baja California, due to this worldwide renowned competition that takes part of the state’s cultural heritage and identity.

According to Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, head of the Secretary of Tourism in Baja California, this event took place thanks to the collaboration of the private sector, hotels, and restaurants, as well as the local and state government. They all looked to give attendants and participants a warm welcome so that they all felt safe and free to enjoy the race.

Olga also went to Wide Open body shop, where the magic happens: here they build the famous trucks that participate in Baja 500, and it is the place they go to after the race is over and all the car damage is taken.

It should be noted that there are 2 types of vehicles used: the first ones are “tour” vehicles which are made for people who have never raced but are interested in having the great experience of driving these awesome machines.

They are described as support cars, very similar to the ones used for races, although they have parts susceptible to break on a real tour.

Meanwhile, Iván Nolasco, reelected for his third term to be the president of CANIRAC, shared some of the characteristic dishes of La Ensenada that mix sea and Valle de Guadalupe products to create delicious dishes so characteristic of the region.

Some of the highlights were the smoked tuna tacos with guacamole decorated with watermelon radish, as well as scallop ceviche with blue maize tostadas.
