In this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Rosarito, our host Chef Danny Betancourt visited Taquería 2000 located in Ensenada 427, Predios Urbanos 22710. Here, he tried two tacos: the famous “perrón” taco priced at $3 dollars (60 pesos) and another one called “Chihuahua” taco priced at $1.75 dollars (35 pesos).
Chihuahua
This taco has carne asada (grilled meat), beans, onions, coriander, watery guacamole, Jack cheese, bird’s beak chile, and is served in a handmade corn tortilla. The first thing our Chef felt with the first bite was the flavor and humidity of the tortilla. The avocado ended up being watery guacamole, which was a negative point since it didn’t add anything to the taco.
The meat was too soft texture-wise, and its flavor was very concentrated. It smoked flavor was way too present, but there was something about it that did not convince Chef Danny which is why this taco gets a rating of 7.5.
Price: $1.75 dollars (35 pesos)
Perrón Taco
This taco has grilled meat, beans, watery guacamole, pico de gallo, Jack cheese, and, unlike the previous taco, this one is served in a quite big flour tortilla. The first thing to highlight is that, before tasting it, Chef Danny noticed the intense color of the meat and once he took a bite, he confirmed that the Jack cheese flavor was more present.
The meat was not as soft as with the previous taco, although this may be because the meat cut was different. Another thing to note is that the protein was a little too salty and the watery guacamole did not help the flavor at all. Although the flour tortilla had a good taste, it was so thin that its flavor got lost. When he took his second bite, Chef Danny stated that he was not able to make out any of the flavors with all of them feeling dispersed. He ended up feeling that the taco needed a little more seasoning, which is why this taco gets a rating of 7.5.
Price: $3 dollars (60 pesos)
