Violence against women is every action that results in physical, sexual, or psychological damage against women, including threats and deprivation of liberty.

The National Alliance of Small Traders (ANPEC) acknowledges March 8 as a symbolic date of the social movement that demands equity and equality for women.

According to World Health Organization’s statistics, most sexual violence aggressions are carried out by women’s partners. According to the WHO, more than ¼ of women between 15 and 49 years old that have had a partner have been victims of physical and/or sexual violence by their partner at least once in their life.

At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, 337 women were murdered which translates to 11.2 women killed every day, one of the highest monthly numbers ever registered. Despite lockdowns and social distancing, murders of women did not decrease, highlighting the violence crisis that women currently live in.

UN General Secretary, Antonio Gutiérrez stated: “The Covid pandemic has posed a decade of setback regarding women’s rights”. It is necessary to get back on track and achieve the necessary transformations to build fairer and more equal societies so that women have an important role in them.

In Mexico, a woman is murdered every 2 hours and 7 out of 10 women have been victims of a kind of aggression.

WHO data:

• 38% of women murders are carried about by their male partners.

• There is data to show that interventions promoting sensibilization and woman emancipation, psychological guidance, and home visits could help to prevent or reduce partners’ violence against women.

ANPEC recognizes women’s resilience in their struggle against Covid-19 and their lives: workers, mothers, wives, daughters, teachers, nurses, housewives, cooks, therapists, and providers are all roles that women undertake.
