Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana 2021: Tripitas Taco from El Poblano Jr. is the worst taco of the year

Top 10 Worst Tacos of 2021 in Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana

Throughout its two seasons, Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana has tasted an endless amount of new tacos for its audience. We have savored from the most classic tacos to the most extravagant and unusual, but, as it often happens in the review business, not everything is bright and colorful. There are some tacos that do not live up to expectations or have a certain something that makes them lose quality or flavor. This is why we show you down below the Top 10 worst tacos we tasted in 2021.

#10 Tacos El Taquito – Pork Rind Taco

El Taquito is a tent located in Aguas Boulevard in Villa Fontana where they serve basket tacos (quite an unusual thing in Tijuana). However, the pork rind taco did not really impress our host, and though its sauce had a nice flavor, it received a rating of 6.5.

#9 Tacos El Pepe – Carne Asada Taco

Located in Calle Manuel Oviedo in Colonia Libertad, one of the tacos from this taqueria delighted Chef Danny. Unfortunately, its traditional carne asada (grilled beef) taco did not, due to the saltiness of the meat and a very liquid sauce. This is why the rating for this taco is 6.5.

Price: $1.5 dollars (28 pesos)

#8 Tacos La Carreta Seiza – Battered Shrimp Taco

Carreta means cart and just like its name indicates, this taco cart is located in Gobernador Rico Street in Colonia Gabilondo. The battered shrimp taco tasted here had a lot of vegetables and dressings alongside the protein. Though visually beautiful, the taste of the shrimp was lost due to all the elements that it contained. Due to this, the rating for this taco is 6.5.

Price: $1.75 dollars (35 pesos)

#7 Carnitas La Mona – Lean Meat Taco with Pickled Pig Skin

This tent is located in Cucapah Boulevard. This taco is a combination of two typical meats in carnitas: pickled pig skin and lean meat. The consistency of this taco was ideal, but the lean meat was quite dry, which our host didn’t appreciate, and the pickling did not have the right acidity. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.1.

Price: $1.25 dollars (25 pesos)

#6 Tacos El Taquito - Cochinita Pibil Taco

Two tacos from this tent are among the worst rated in 2021. Not because of their bad flavor, but because they did not impress as much as others. For example, this cochinita pibil taco has a bittersweet taste with the onion in it giving it the necessary acidity. However, the tortilla broke due to the grease that coats them and its size is too small. Therefore, this taco gets a rating of 5.6.

#5 Mazon Vegano – Asada-Like Taco

It is hard for a non-vegan to dare and try something without any animal protein, but Chef Danny is willing to try any kind of taco. So he visited this taqueria located in 3era Etapa of Río Tijuana, in P. del Río Avenue #6642 in “El Punto Foodtrucks”. Soy protein is used in this taco and though it is very similar to meat in flavor, it is not in texture, being way too soft and with a plain taste, according to our host. This taco gets a rating of 5.5.

Price: $1.5 dollars (30 pesos)

#4 Tacos Varios El Inge – Rib Taco in Green Sauce

This cart, located in Cucapah Boulevard 22357, Fontana I, surprised Chef Dany because of its giant shrimp “cake” taco. However, its rib in green sauce taco was not so lucky due to a significant amount of small bones, which can always cause problems, either by biting them or swallowing them. Because of this, it gets a rating of 5.5.

Price: $1.25 dollars (25 pesos)

#3 Tacos El Poblano Jr. – Asada Taco

This taqueria is located in Diego Rivera, Zona Río Tijuana. This time, it wasn’t the meat that was disappointing, but the tortilla which was very dry. No matter how delicious the protein in a taco is, the tortilla is a key ingredient to make them work, which is why this taco gets a rating of 5.5.

#2 Marea Baja Sea Food – Battered Shrimp Taco

This food truck, located in De las Ferias Avenue, Colonia Hipódromo in Colectivo Food Ferias has a specialty in seafood. But its battered shrimp taco did not pass the test: its tortilla was somehow hard and it broke. Although it is battered with beer, which greatly impressed the chef, its tortilla ended up giving it a rating of 5.0.

#1 Tacos El Poblano Jr. – Tripitas Taco

This taqueria crowned itself in the top spot of this Top 10 and the main reason is its tortillas. They appeared to be “browned” (i.e., deep fried) when in fact they were hard and dry, even a little chewy, according to our host. Its “tripitas” (chitterlings) were also dry and its “watery guacamole” did not do it any favors. As such, this taco gets a rating of 3.0, the lowest rating of 2021.

Price: $2.3 dollars (47 pesos)
