The Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is preparing to update and has prepared a pilot so that people who are part of the Trusted Traveler Program can renew their NEXUS, SENTRI and FAST documents from the comfort of their homes.
This test will give eligible members the opportunity to complete the renewal process or interview through a video conference with a CBP officer. These tests will be conducted with the highest standards of security and privacy.
"Some Global Entry renewing members who are conditionally approved are eligible to participate in the pilot," CBP said in a statement on its official website, adding that this will begin next week and will be a phased approach.
They also clarified that first-time Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) applicants are not eligible to participate because of temporary restrictions on non-essential travel at U.S. land borders.
The remote interview pilot will add convenience for TTP applicants, while allowing CBP to meet the high demand for membership in Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI and FAST
What are the requirements?
1. Be conditionally approved for a renewal of the Trusted Traveler Program 2.
2. Be at least 18 years of age
3. Have a photo on file with CBP that was taken within the last 10 years and after the applicant was 14 years of age.
4. Have previously submitted fingerprints to CBP.
The interviews will reportedly last approximately fifteen minutes. In addition, applicants should be prepared to show the following documents during their remote interview:
1. A valid passport (in addition, applicants should bring all of their current passports to the interview so that the information can be added to their file).
2. Documents proving your residency (includes a driver's license, a mortgage statement, a rent payment statement, or a utility bill showing the applicant's current residential address).
3. If applicable, a permanent resident card.
