On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tecate, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos El Paisano” located at Carretera Tijuana-Tecate 21448, Hogar. On this occasion, he tried two tacos: a carne asada taco priced at $1.40 dollars ($26 pesos) and a tongue taco priced at $1.89 dollars ($35 pesos).
Asada Taco
This taco has carne asada (grilled beef), onion, cilantro, huevona salsa, guacamole, and is served on two handmade corn tortillas. The first thing to note about this taco is that the tortilla had a bigger size than the ones usually used and that they were handmade.
When he took his first bite, Chef Danny claimed that the meat was very soft and juicy. The huevona salsa wasn’t spicy but it did add a lot of flavor. Though they were thin, the tortillas were felt very prominently due to their maize touches. Adding this to the meat’s juiciness, created a good combination, which is why this taco gets a rating of 8.8.
Price: $1.40 dollars ($26 pesos)
Tongue Taco
This taco has beef tongue, onion, cilantro, green salsa, and is served on two handmade corn tortillas. Before he tried it, Chef Danny claimed that just by looking at the sauce’s texture he already could tell that it was very flavorful; he also highlighted the tortillas’ big size.
When he tried it, Chef Danny claimed that the salsa was balanced very well as it has a very good flavor: it wasn’t very sour or very spicy. The tortillas were hydrated well, with maize touches. The meat had a very soft texture and he added it would have been ideal if the taco had had guacamole, which is why this taco gets a rating of 8.5.
Price: $1.89 dollars ($35 pesos)
