On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt visited “Tacos Mayrene” located at Blvd Cucapah, Lomas de Matamoros. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a carne asada taco and a chorizo taco both priced at $1.1 dollars ($22 pesos).
Carne Asada Taco
This taco has carne asada (grilled beef), coriander, avocado and is served on two handmade corn tortillas. The first thing that Chef Danny highlighted was the tortillas which, though they didn’t have a very intense maize flavor, had very good texture and one could feel that they were recently made, right out of the skillet, creating a soft paste once bitten.
The meat was juicy but, to Danny’s taste, it was missing a marinated taste. The avocado also ended up being watery guacamole, something that took off points from the taco. The onion and cilantro added a very interesting freshness to the dish. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.8.
Price: $1.1 dollars ($22 pesos)
Chorizo Taco
First of all, the first thing Chef Danny noticed was the intense red color of the chorizo, which was served with onion, cilantro, huevona sauce, and watery guacamole. When he tried it for the first time, he noticed that this protein was a type of chorizo that didn’t have a lot of grease as well as having some sweet, not-so-seasoned touches.
Because of this, this chorizo wasn’t “very heavy”. The watery guacamole, as with the previous taco, did not help at all. Chef Danny confirmed that the star this afternoon was, without a doubt, the tortillas which were hydrated quite well, as they had great flavor and consistency. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.8.
