On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Mexicali, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to Taquito de Oro located at Calle Rio Presidio, Col. Independencia. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a machaca taco priced at $1.25 dollars ($24 pesos) and a cheese machaca taco priced at $2.4 dollars ($45 pesos).
Cheese Machaca Taco
This was the first taco our host tried and it has machaca, which was stewed with chili, tomato, onions, beans, cheese and it was served on a flour tortilla. This tortilla had a good size and it was fried quite well. Though this usually makes it too hard, this did not happen here and this delighted Danny.
The machaca was in a juice which was quite flavorful, though the meat needed to be chewed a little to make it soft. The beans were presented in a pasta-like style and the cheese, though it was greasy, did not stretch a lot even though it was melted. However, it had a good flavor. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.7.
Price: $2.4 dollars ($45 pesos)
Machaca Taco
Unlike the previous taco, the flour tortilla here was quite soft. It also has machaca stewed with tomato, chili pepper, and onion, cut onions, coriander, and radishes cut in small slices. When he took his first bite, Danny claimed that the radish was a great thing to add to this dish.
He claimed that the cut vegetable along with the cilantro and onion added a freshness that completely changed the style of the taco, making it lighter than the cheese taco. Chef Danny said that one can notice that the tortilla was homemade especially for this taqueria, which exalted its flavor. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.8.
Price: $1.25 dollars ($24 pesos)
