On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Mexicali, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Enrique’s Tacos y Más” located at Av. Pdte. Gómez Farías 1900, República Mexicana. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a pork rind taco priced at $1.5 dollars ($30 pesos) and a stuffed pepper with pork leg priced at $2.3 dollars ($45 pesos).
Stuffed Pepper with Pork Leg Taco
The first things to note about this taco were both the size and the fact that is served on a flour tortilla with a stuffed California pepper, pork leg, purple onion, a bed of refried beans, and green sauce. When he took his first bite, he highlighted the pork leg since it was at its ideal cooking point, the pepper was battered with egg, and the refried beans “pasta” combined with the flour tortilla made a perfect mix.
Something interesting to note is that these “stew” tacos are usually served on corn tortillas, but were served here with flour tortillas instead. The pepper was stuffed with fresh cheese which, thanks to the oil’s heat, gave it a firm texture and great flavor. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.1.

Pork Rind Taco
One can really appreciate the refried beans in this taco as well as the pressed pork rind which was drenched in a sauce that Chef Danny thought was either morita or ancho chili pepper due to how dark it was. The taco was also served on a flour tortilla.
Danny said that even though one of the employees suggested that he used extra sauce, he decided not to add it because he noticed that it didn’t need it. He was right because Chef Danny said that the pork rind’s stew flavor was too good when mixed with the beans and the flour tortilla. It created an incomparable combination that everyone must try. For these reasons, it got a rating of 8.9 which is the highest rating that any taco in Mexicali has got.
