The U.S. government is using a new tool to fill an old job: protecting the nation's borders.
Through Twitter, Customs and Border Protection announced Wednesday that it was accepting job applications.
The full-time jobs for men and women have a starting salary between $31,300 and $38,790 and have ample opportunity for promotion, said the agency, part of the Department of Homeland Security
Those selected could be assigned anywhere along the border, although most would work in the Southwest.
"CBP employees protect our nation's borders from terrorism, human and drug smuggling, illegal migration, and agricultural pests while simultaneously facilitating the flow of legitimate travel and trade," according to the job announcement.
Applicants, required to be U.S. citizens, must agree to an extensive federal background check that includes various exams, including a lie detector test and one that tests for illegal drugs.
Applications are being accepted through April 30. Details are found at USAJOBS.GOV.
