Discover the Baja Californian athletes who qualified for the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics

5 Baja Californian athletes will compete in the artistic gymnastics, rowing, taekwondo, and swimming categories

The 2024 Paris Summer Olympics are fast approaching! 10,000 of the best athletes in the world will gather in the capital of France to prove who is the best of the best, and among them, there will be several worthy Mexican representatives.

The world's most important sporting event will take place from July 26 to August 11 and welcome the most outstanding athletes from 32 different sports. On this occasion, the Olympic Games will feature the debut of the breakdancing and skateboarding categories.

It should be noted that 5 Baja Californian athletes will compete in the artistic gymnastics, rowing, taekwondo, and swimming categories.

This is a list of the qualified and confirmed athletes that will represent Baja California:

Alexa Moreno

This Mexicali native Olympic gymnast has participated in several national and international championships. She began practicing gymnastics when she was only 3 years old and won her first gold medal in 2010 during the Pacific Rim Championship.

This amazing sports representative from Mexicali has always been in the top 10 on vault, but her most important moment took place at the 2018 World Artistic Gymnastics Championship in Doha, where she won a bronze medal and became the first Mexican woman to win in an international gymnastics competition.

At the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, she had a historic performance on vault, winning 4th place just 17 hundredths behind Korean Yeo Seo-Jeong.

Martha Sandoval

The open-water swimmer, also from Mexicali, has won several Central American championships, where she showed off her skills and dedication.

She qualified for the Summer Olympics after a great result at the 2018 World Artistic Gymnastics Championship in Doha, Qatar, where her performance (1 hour, 58 minutes, and 21.20 seconds in the 10 kilometer competition) made her a standout.

Daniela Souza

This Tijuana native taekwondo practitioner has been ranked as one of Mexico's greatest hopes for the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics after impressive achievements in world and Pan-American championships.

Her greatest achievement was becoming World Champion and MVP in 2022 at the competition that took place in Guadalajara.

At the Manchester 2023 World Taekwondo Grand Prix, she was able to qualify for the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics and reached the semifinals in the 49kg category. This competition gathers only the very best of each category and Daniela won 4th place.

Natalia Escalera

This gymnast from Ensenada has shone in Pan-American Championships as a distinguished athlete from Mexico.

In 2021, she won 2nd place at the Pan-American Championships and was the Mexican with the highest place. In addition, she won a Gold medal in jumping, 5th place in uneven bars, and 5th place in floor exercise.

This athlete competed in the 2022 Pan-American Championships and won a Silver medal in jumping.

Alexis López

A rower from San Felipe who has shown his skills in several different international competitions, including the Pan-American Games and World Championships.

Alongside Miguel Ángel Carballo of Baja California Sur, they won a Gold medal at the 2023 Pan-American Games in Santiago and in 2024, they won 2nd place in the finals of the World Rowing Cup III in Poland in the Lightweight Men's Double Sculls category.
