The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, revealed that Tijuana could finally see one of its most anticipated projects realized in 2026: a cable car system connecting several of the city’s most important areas.
This ambitious project aims to solve the city's mobility problems and offer an effective alternative to the traffic congestions affecting thousands of residents and visitors.
At a recent morning press conference, the President of Mexico confirmed that Tijuana's infrastructure and mobility projects are set to be finalized in 2025. Most significant among them is the Elevated Viaduct, which will help to connect the city's important zones.
However, she also explained that the most thorough analysis will take place in 2026 regarding the cable car's viability. To do this, authorities will review the project’s technical, economic, and social aspects and consequences to determine whether this cable car can be built as proposed.
If the project is given the go-ahead, it could become one of the most innovative solutions to Tijuana's traffic congestion issues, which are considerably extensive due to the high number of people driving in this border city’s streets.
Air pollution levels could also be reduced thanks to this cable car project and make the city’s transport system more sustainable.
