Can you cross the border through the Tijuana-San Diego ports of entry wearing a costume?

Find out if you're allowed to go through the Tijuana-San Diego ports of entry wearing a costume or special makeup on Halloween

Halloween is just a few days away and some people are asking themselves where they should celebrate this holiday. Many Tijuana natives with a visa and American citizens and residents may decide they want to go trick-or-treating in San Diego or somewhere in California. However, are you allowed to cross the border through the Tijuana-San Diego ports of entry wearing a costume?

This is what happens if you cross the border to San Diego wearing a costume on Halloween

In an exclusive interview with SanDiegoRed.com, CBP Chief of Communications, Wilson Portocarrero, spoke about the border crossings at Tijuana-San Diego ports of entry on Thursday, October 31st.

Portocarrero explained that travelers will be able to cross the border wearing a costume with no issue at all through the Tijuana-San Diego ports of entry. However, they must keep in mind the following:

Masks

If you're wearing a mask that covers most of your face, you should take it off when meeting with the border agent. This is so that you can be identified with no issues and continue your journey.

Makeup

There’s also no issue for travelers wearing makeup. However, they must be aware that the inspection process to determine the person's identity when crossing is made according to the visa or passport.

He added that it may be necessary for certain people to be sent to secondary inspection if an identity cannot be easily confirmed:

We can't tell you not to cross with makeup... you can, but it is better to put it on in the United States, because it will make the process much easier. If you cannot, you must be aware that it could delay you for a few minutes or even send you to secondary inspection so we can verify your identity.

If you're thinking about spending Halloween in San Diego, please keep all of this in mind when crossing the border at the Tijuana-San Diego ports of entry so as to not delay your trip or make your identification process much harder.
