Tijuana’s transport modernization! Marina del Pilar presents new buses for Corredor Agua Caliente

Goodbye cash! You'll be able to add funds to your card to use the Agua Caliente route transport in Tijuana, stated the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar

On October 10 at 11 AM, the launch of new public transport vehicles for the Corredor Agua Caliente, Route 13 subsystem took place. At this event, the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda; the mayor of Tijuana, Ismael Burgueño Ruiz; and other prominent figures such as the Secretary of Work, Alejandro Arregui Ibarra, the president of CANADEVI Tijuana, Xavier Ibarra Quintana, and the manager of Government Relations with OXXO, María Fernanda López, among others, were all present.

Within the framework of the digitalization of Baja California, José Alberto Gutiérrez, director of the Institute of Sustainable Mobility (IMOS), said that part of the modernization of mobility is to stop using cash in order to use transport cards instead. These cards will be distributed in OXXO stores, where one can also add funds to use them for public transport.

Two types of cards are being offered: the general card with 10 loaded trips and the preferential card with 20 trips. In addition, the governor announced an investment to deliver 71,000 cards on Monday, October 14 in collaboration with the Wellbeing team and the City Hall of Tijuana.

There will be 29 OXXO locations that can be found on this route that will be the spots where one can add funds in order to promote the use of the card and stop the use of cash.

It should be noted that Ruta 13 begins in Downtown Tijuana, goes through Agua Caliente and Gustavo Díaz Ordaz Boulevards, and ends at La Presa delegation in Parque Esperanto.

During this event, she stressed that this project continues to be the legacy of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, built together with Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico's current president. She recalled that when AMLO was head of the government, he put Sheinbaum in charge of implementing the Metrobus, ensuring a continuous and solid collaboration between authorities.

Governor Marina del Pilar said the following:

We are getting closer to electrical mobility, which is our biggest challenge. We are already working with the federal government. The first meeting that the Secretary of Energy of Mexico, of the Claudia Sheinbaum administration, had was with me in order to address projects regarding electrical mobility and energetic growth matters, with a focus on the most vulnerable people.

In addition, she celebrated that the new buses are 2024-2025 models with Euro 6 technology in order to reduce polluting emissions. She also underscored that 30% of these vehicles are accessible for people with disabilities, as their access is easier for people with crutches or wheelchairs.
