Mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez officially inaugurated the Cerro de las Abejas Recreational and Sports Park, highlighting her commitment to the residents of Tijuana and the fulfillment of the strategies outlined at the beginning of her term. This project, supported by the private sector, will benefit thousands of families residing in the eastern part of the city.
“I am very excited because we did it; we successfully completed this park that no one thought we would finish. Thank you to everyone who helped make the Cerro de las Abejas Park possible. We couldn't have achieved this without the new secretaries we chose, who genuinely wanted to transform Tijuana,” said the mayor.
This park was a commitment made by Mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez during her campaign, motivated by a desire to provide a second lung for the city and offer a high-quality space for the citizens of East Tijuana.
“I leave with the satisfaction of being able to look you in the eye and tell you that we fulfilled our commitment to you. When I went to your homes, knocked on your doors, and promised changes, here they are. We walk away with our heads held high despite the many unfounded rumors. The time will come to reap what we sow today; in the meantime, we will continue to move forward until the last day to achieve that Tijuana for everyone, which is now a reality,” she stated.
The total investment for this major project was 192.7 million pesos, of which 171.3 million were provided by the City Council and an additional 21.4 million by the private sector.
In this regard, Mayor Montserrat Caballero acknowledged the entrepreneurs, sponsors, and civil associations that joined from the outset, including the Tijuana Economic Development Council (CDT), CMIC, Canadevi, Coca-Cola, Cimbra Capital, Ruba, Heineken, Ley, 7 Eleven, Excel Hospital, Cadena, and SM8 Desarrollo.
Cerro de las Abejas Recreational and Sports Park covers an area of 7.6 hectares, with an additional 40 hectares available for hiking activities.
Due to its strategic location, over 220,000 residents—70% of whom are young people—will directly benefit from this park, with an estimated attendance of between 20,000 and 25,000 users per week.
The park features a soccer field, jogging track, parkour area, crossfit area, a futsal court, a soccer 7 field, a baseball field, a basketball court, hiking trails, a playground, a climbing structure for children, a lookout point, an amphitheater for events, pet-friendly spaces, a dining area, restrooms, parking, green areas, and other amenities.
“All of this will allow our children and youth to have open, healthy, and dignified spaces, fundamentally ensuring they have places to spend time with their families. This will also strengthen our social fabric and foster a sense of belonging within the community,” expressed Caballero Ramírez.
The inauguration of the Cerro de las Abejas Recreational and Sports Park was attended by more than 500 people, who served as witnesses to this historic event and enjoyed a sports exhibition featuring soccer, skateboarding, dance, and other disciplines.
