The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, has announced that her state, alongside Baja California Sur, Mexico City, Oaxaca, Nuevo Leon, and Quintana Roo will be included in the prestigious Michelin Guide, recognized worldwide in the gastronomic world. The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, officialized this announcement during the International Fair of Tourism (FITUR) 2024, that took place in Madrid, Spain. This recognition is an outstanding achievement for the gastronomy of these regions and it was revealed in an internationally renowned event.
Torruco Marqués stressed that the arrival of the Michelin Guide in Mexico will contribute to promote tourism, show off its culinary richness, and will provide greater international projection to our country, which will result in more investments, job creation, and economic revenue.
He said that the Michelin Guide came to Mexico thanks to the support of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (CANIRAC) as a destination partner, and it represents an important step for Mexico's projection as a state-of-the-art destination.
The federal official highlighted that traditional Mexican cuisine is inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, and it has transcended borders which is why it is now an international reference.
"Its flavors, ingredients, and culinary techniques are an invaluable tradition that we must preserve. Every region or place has its own characteristics that make it unique, particular, and unrepeatable, as ingredients and cooking techniques are very intimately related to daily life," he said.
At this announcement, the Secretary of Tourism of Baja California, Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, was present and he highlighted that the state has a cultural and gastronomic richness that places it at the national and international forefront with sea and land products that add touristic value to the state.
