Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda will be the first politician from Baja California to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF), an international space that represents an important platform to boost the state's economic development.
The world's most influential minds will gather here to face urgent global challenges such as ensuring peace, creating economic strategies, fighting climate change, and guiding the technological revolution towards a positive future.
The state governor was selected to represent Mexico in the panel: “El realismo económico en Latinoamérica.”
"We will talk in this panel about the economic policy of the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and how it has contributed to stabilizing our currency and our economy at large, without ignoring the wellbeing of our people," Marina del Pilar explained.
The International Forum where everyone wants to be invited
The WEF is an event of great importance and magnitude that receives hundreds of requests every year from businessmen to political leaders such as senators, municipal mayors, and governors who send their letters with years in advance so that they can be a part of this event.
However, the selection of guests is quite rigorous and exclusive of those who have generated a strong impact to benefit society and economic development in a region.
Ávila Olmeda is the first politician of Baja California that will be part of this important forum, which represents a privilege for this state and an economic growth tool as it will allow for the creation of strong bonds with world powers and brands so that they invest in the state and Mexico.
What does the World Economic Forum consist of?
The World Economic Forum (WEF) is an internationally renowned event that gathers representatives from different countries where highly relevant issues such as security, transparency, energy, sustainable development, climate change, food production, among others, are addressed.
This event's goal is to generate tangible impact, transform ideas into definite actions, and update solutions for the real world. Its focus will be the theme "Rebuilding Trust" due to the heavy incidents that are occurring worldwide that have created political, social, and economic fractures.
The four main themes of this year are:
- Achieving Security and Cooperation in a Fractured World
- Creating Growth and Jobs for a New Era
- Artificial Intelligence as a Driving Force for the Economy and Society
- A Long-Term Strategy for Climate, Nature and Energy
The governor's participation at WEF, a momentous occasion
Governor Marina del Pilar is the first Baja Californian state governor and politician that has been invited to the World Economic Forum.
After a strict selection of participants, it was decided that the state governor will be part of the panel "Diálogo sobre las estrategias del país" (Dialogue about the Country's Strategies) together with the governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo, and the governor of Yucatán, Mauricio Vila, where they will talk about several different actions that they have promoted in Mexico in order to boost its development. She will also be the Mexican representative in a panel about economic realism in Latin America.
That's why her presence at this event represents a unique opportunity for Baja California, as it allows for the establishment of bonds, expanding the economic alliance network, and learning all about the new economic trends in the world.
"It is an excellent opportunity to boost sustainable investment and inclusive economic development for our country as established by the principles of the Fourth Transformation," the governor said.
Why has the state of Baja California been invited to this event?
The state of Baja California is one of the most attractive regions for nearshoring due to its proximity to the United States and companies now choosing to move their manufacturing much closer to their final destination.
The CaliBaja region is located in the same time zone, making logistics management much easier, and creating a speedy and efficient workflow. Here, both border states are benefited and boost their economic development.
Baja California represents an attractive commercial paradise that has been in constant growth and it should be noted that during the Marina del Pilar administration manufacturing production rates and a great number of investments have been favored enormously.
It is important to mention that a recent study by Cushman & Wakefield says that Tijuana is the most important industrial manufacturing market in Mexico's northern border.
Main benefits of the World Economic Forum for Baja California
The presence of Governor Marina del Pilar represents a window of opportunities to attract investors; mainly, big businesses that are currently top of the global market such as Google, Meta, and Nvidia. It can also help to strengthen alliances with businesses that are already here such as Samsung, Hisense, Tesla, Amazon, Qualcomm, among others.
Issues that are of interest to the region such as technological and scientific progress will also be addressed as they are very important for the development of the state as every year there is the greater positioning of medical tourism and its cosmetic breakthroughs.
In addition, another important issue that will be addressed is artificial intelligence, a sector that has been gaining greater presence in Mexican companies. At this forum, there will be conferences focused on regulations regarding AI to benefit science and biotechnology.
It should be noted that security, technological development, and international cooperation issues will also be addressed, and they are of great importance to Baja California for being a border state.
