David Černý is an artist, engineer, and architect from Prague, Czech Republic known for his provocative sculptures that are also social denouncements. His interesting works of art have traveled around the world, and at last, they will arrive in Mexico at Centro Cultural Tijuana facilities.

The exhibition David Černý: Rebelión will take place in Sala 2, El Cubo. After its inauguration next Saturday, July 29 at 6 PM, admission will be free.

Among the sculptures that will be exhibited there is the famous “Tower Babies” which consists of babies 3 meters long and 2 ½ meters tall. They have barcodes along their faces and express the artist’s disturbance at society’s dehumanization.

The Tower Babies are some of the most emblematic artworks in Prague, with each piece weighing around 190 kilograms. The first baby was presented in 1994. Six years later, 10 pieces made of fiberglass were installed outside the Zizkov Television Tower.

If there is something that distinguishes Černý is the way in which he addresses social issues such as politics and war through art. To create an image of the world that surrounds him, he has had to break rules and point out concerning things that are affecting society.

Some of the artist’s most recent works have been made with his patented technique, where he manages to create tridimensional objects embedded in polymer resin.

This exhibition will arrive for the first time in Mexico and will be available until January 2024 at Centro Cultural Tijuana facilities.

Černý’s lone exhibitions have been shown in countries such as the Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany, England, Belgium, the United States, and Slovakia, while his collective exhibitions have been shown in countries such as Australia, China, Sweden, Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland, South Korea, Spain, Japan, Ukraine, Austria, Brazil, among others.
