Hyperthermia therapy is well known in the medical field and consists of increasing the body’s temperature or a specific area where a cancerous tumor has been found; this temperature reaches approximately 104°F (40°C). To apply full body hyperthermia a specialized device is used. The device at ITC is from Germany and it is a chamber where the body is placed in, with the head outside. This session lasts approximately 90 minutes.

For local hyperthermia, a device is used that penetrates tissue in order to increase temperatures in the area where the solid tumor is. This session can vary from 30 to 60 minutes approximately, depending on the tumor’s depth or the area that is going to be treated.

All types of cancer that involve a solid tumor respond positively to the application of this therapy, however, its effectiveness depends on the type of cancer and the stage it is at, as well as the patient’s conditions.

This therapy also helps to stimulate patients’ immune system. ITC uses a combination of immunotherapy and other treatments so that they can complement each other to increase chances of success.

Some patients that wouldn’t be good candidates for hyperthermia therapy are those who have a very advanced stage of cancer or are in bad health condition, for example, those with blood pressure issues. Besides this, most patients are eligible to receive this treatment.
