Hyperthermia therapy in Tijuana: discover the advantages of this cancer treatment

Hyperthermia therapy is well known in the medical field

Hyperthermia therapy is well known in the medical field and consists of increasing the body’s temperature or a specific area where a cancerous tumor has been found; this temperature reaches approximately 104°F (40°C). Dr. Carlos Bautista, founder of Immunity Therapy Center (ITC), explained this therapy’s process.

He stated that it is a therapy that has been used for a long time, being one of the first ones used to treat cancer since Roman times.

Though there are different devices and ways to do this therapy, hyperthermia therapy can be divided in two types:

  • Full body, which basically means creating a fever under controlled circumstances.
  • Localized hyperthermia, which through different methods, is applied directly where the tumor is located.

This therapy has several benefits, as it can be used all by itself or in combination with other treatments such as radiation or chemotherapy. Dr. Bautista added that cancerous cells, being somewhat primitive, don’t tolerate high temperatures, which is why they are destroyed when they reach a temperature of 104°F; this can be done in both the entire body or in a specific area, and ITC has both treatments.

Due to the stress the body’s under during this therapy, ITC specialists constantly monitor the patient’s vital signs during sessions, in order to avoid complications such blood pressure drops.

To apply full body hyperthermia a specialized device is used. The device at ITC is from Germany and it is a chamber where the body is placed in, with the head outside. This session lasts approximately 90 minutes.

For local hyperthermia, a device is used that penetrates tissue in order to increase temperatures in the area where the solid tumor is. This session can vary from 30 to 60 minutes approximately, depending on the tumor’s depth or the area that is going to be treated.

All types of cancer that involve a solid tumor respond positively to the application of this therapy, however, its effectiveness depends on the type of cancer and the stage it is at, as well as the patient’s conditions.

This therapy also helps to stimulate patients’ immune system. ITC uses a combination of immunotherapy and other treatments so that they can complement each other to increase chances of success.

Some patients that wouldn’t be good candidates for hyperthermia therapy are those who have a very advanced stage of cancer or are in bad health condition, for example, those with blood pressure issues. Besides this, most patients are eligible to receive this treatment.

Currently, there are several articles and studies about the use of hyperthermia (most of it in combination with chemotherapy or radiation). Dr. Bautista also led an investigation on hyperthermia all by itself, which ended up having good results.
