The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, promotes inclusion by launching the delivery of birth certificates in the braille system. This initiative is free and its goal is to benefit people with visual disabilities, which corresponds with the public policies that strengthen human rights in the state.

Marina del Pilar highlighted the work by the state Civil Registry and its head, Elizabeth Márquez Saavedra, to guarantee access to equality and respect of human rights for all people who are in groups that require priority care, such as people with some kind of disability.

Accompanied by the Secretary of the Interior, Catalino Zavala, and Márquez Saavedra, the governor delivered the first birth certificates of this kind in the state.

The head of the Civil Registry explained that in Baja California there are more than 66,000 people with some kind of visual disability, according to the 2020 census by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), who are now guaranteed to have their right to an identity, through a campaign that will issue certificates in braille for free from April 4 to June 30, 2023.

For her part, the head of the Civil Registry stated that this campaign is being carried out in coordination with the National Registry of Population (RENAPO), the System for the Comprehensive Development of Family (SDIF), and civil associations, who were the ones reaching out to those interested.

Requisites to obtaining this birth certificate in braille for free are full name, date and place of birth, CURP, telephone number, and email. This will end up saving up to $220 pesos for people born in the state, and $420 pesos for people born in other states, according to the official.

It should be noted that the braille system is an alphabet which consists in six tactile points organized within a space of three rows and two columns, and the way to read this alphabet is to move your hand from left to right, going through each row.
