Marina del Pilar assists women who have been victims of medical malpractice in Baja California

According to Baja Californian Governor, Marina del Pilar, the State’s Prosecutor Agency (FGE) in coordination with the government of Baja California continues to work in favor of people who have been victims of medical malpractice by pseudo health specialists that perform surgeries without certification in the state. In addition, they have also made progress regarding surveillance and certifications of all private clinics where surgeries take place in order to develop a safe environment for medical tourism in Baja California.

As such, she announced that recently two people were arrested due to medical malpractice, this is after investigations by the public ministry. They are also providing direct assistance to all victims.

During the 69th edition of “Wednesday Morning Press Conference with Marina del Pilar”, she highlighted that guaranteeing the right to health is a priority to create wellbeing for Baja Californians and medical tourism visitors, which is why they are working together with the health sector to make sure that all medical services that are carried out have the required quality and safety.

The state governor pointed out that her administration is creating public policies to consolidate a health public system that provides high-quality and free services to all people, while supervision has been strengthened on the private sector so that all hospitals and clinics operating in the state do so under the rule of law.

“When we took office, we found great development in this sector, which was not accompanied by a regulation policy and effective supervision, which guarantees users a high-quality service and that would allow doctors and institutions the optimal conditions for the development of this industry,” she said.

As such, Marina del Pilar highlighted that when they identified this situation, actions were taken to make sure Baja California guarantees assistance for everyone while developing the healthcare industry, which has created an important economic boost for the state as it has consolidated itself as an important medical tourism destination.

With support from COEPRIS, operatives in the state have intensified in order to supervise clinics and hospitals, corroborating that they are working in the best conditions and that they have trained and certified staff to provide adequate assistance. This has resulted in 12 establishments being suspended because they did not comply with the proper laws to continue operating.

She also highlighted the recent reform that was introduced and approved by Congress to sanction and penalize those who carry out medical procedures without having the required preparation and certification. This provides legal certainty to doctors and users, as well as a regulatory foundation to sanction those who take advantage of people by acting recklessly and putting people’s health and the medical services industry in danger.

“To those who have been affected, we are offering our support and commitment that we are not going to allow illegal medical activities in our state,” she added.
