The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda celebrated the 71st anniversary of Baja California, as several years ago on a January 16 day, Baja California became a Free and Sovereign State of the Republic, and she reaffirmed her commitment with the development of the state and its people.

“Today, 71 years later, we reinforced the 29th state as a land where nobody is left behind and nobody is left out, a young, vibrant, effervescing, participatory, and inclusive state: a mural of cultures and social expressions, where diversity and creativity are our essence,” she said.

In her message to Baja Californian society, Marina del Pilar recalled that on January 16, 1952 the decree was issued by the then President of Mexico, Miguel Alemán Valdés, to make Baja California the 29th state of the Mexican Republic.

Marina del Pilar highlighted the celebration of the state through the unity of the Executive Branch, the Judicial Branch, the government of Mexico, the Armed Forces, and the seven municipalities of the state, who are working hand in hand to promote the wellbeing of the state’s inhabitants.

In addition, Governor Marina del Pilar acknowledged the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, for permanently working together with state authorities in order to carry out the actions to transform the several different aspects of the state’s public life.

“Today we retain the spirit of the Kiliwas, Pai-Pai, Cochimíes, and Cucapá people who are the seed of our cultural identity, the sailors who explored unknown seas, the tenacity of the missionaries who placed foundation stones, the faith of those who worked the land of Valle de Mexicali and brought harvest to the desert,” she said.

The state governor highlighted that in this administration a social inclusive policy has been embraced which is focused on human rights, gender equality, and support for those who have been historically marginalized and forgotten, always thinking on wellbeing as the pillar of the state’s development.

She emphasized the importance of working for a better environment for children and teenagers, single mothers, seniors, as well as creating economic growth where investments and budgets actually benefit all families.

At this event the following people were present: Mexicali mayor, Norma Alicia Bustamante Martínez; Tecate municipal president, Edgar Darío Benítez Ruiz; Ensenada mayor, Armando Ayala Robles; the President of the Foundational Council of San Felipe, José Luis Dagnino López; the President of the Foundational Council of San Quintin, Jorge Alberto López Peralta; President of the State Congress, Rocío Adame Muñoz; President of the Judicial Branch, Alejandro Isaac Fragozo López; Commander of the Second Military Zone, Víctor Aguirre Serna, and the representative of the XXIV Municipal Administration of Tijuana, Elí Topete.
