The State Coordination of Civil Protection (CEPC) informs that, starting on Wednesday, December 28, a notable temperature drop in Baja California is expected. In addition, there is a possible frost warning in the high areas of the region and snow probabilities.

The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda as well as the Secretary of the Interior, Catalino Zavala Márquez, have instructed CEPC to maintain permanent monitoring, in order to provide the population with prompt warnings so that preventive measures can be taken to safeguard everyone’s wellbeing.

The state coordinator of Civil Protection, Salvador Cervantes Hernández, explained that the moderate to heavy rain forecast is still active Tuesday evening and the early morning and morning of Wednesday, December 28, with chances of it continuing moderately to lightly all the way until Sunday.

For Tijuana, Playas de Rosarito, Ensenada, and Tecate, moderate to intense rains are expected, while light rain in Mexicali, San Felipe, and San Quintin is expected.

The director stated that, on Wednesday, a new cold front will arrive in northeastern Mexico associated with a polar vortex, which will cause heavy rain in Baja California.

The official stated that gusts of wind of 70 to 90 km per hour with dust clouds could also arrive, which will be added to the conditions of sleet and snow in the mountains of Baja California, making the environment very cold and icy in the next few days, according to information by the National Commission of Water (CONAGUA).

This is why CPEC recommends people to take preventive measures to avoid accidents, as well as driving carefully and checking the conditions of their vehicles and homes to lower risks.

To prevent breathing diseases and health risks, it is recommended to wear several layers of clothing, protect your face, head, hands, and ears, drink a lot of liquids, and avoid exposing yourself to sudden temperature changes.
