Several graduates from Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC) have distinguished themselves in several areas, both nationally and internationally. Recently, another cimarrona (UABC student) has been named as one of the best contemporary artists in the world.
The book PRIME by publisher Phaidon in New York has been published. In this book there is a list of the 107 most outstanding artists worldwide, among which there is Chantal Peñalosa, a graduate who holds a degree in Plastic Arts from UABC Tijuana.
Chantel graduated in 2011 from the Faculty of Arts in UABC, and has been currently named as one of the most important contemporary artists (under the age of 40). With her appearance in PRIME, this cimarrona’s talent has been highlighted even more.
According to Gaceta UABC, Peñalosa is a teacher at the Faculty of Arts in the Tijuana Campus, where she has managed to share her knowledge with the new generations of artists, and has also invited them to take part in her artistic projects. In addition, fellow university teachers have supported her project regarding the “aromas” that can be detected at the Tijuana-San Diego border crossing, which have helped to depict the daily life that occurs in both cities.
