Tijuana and San Diego’s current heatwave, that began last week, has made an impact on people who have tried looking for several different ways to cool themselves, especially during this Labor Day weekend.

Streets and beaches were full of tourists and locals that were trying to escape from Sunday’s hot and suffocating weather. On Monday, returning to the US has become an odyssey since lines to enter the US from Tijuana have had long waiting times.

According to Facebook group “Como está la linea Tijuana” (“How is Tijuana’s (border) line?”) where several users share the current state of the ports of entry, on Monday, September 5 waiting times of more than 4 hours were reported. They were also reported as being slow. This occurred on the vehicular “Ready Lane” at San Ysidro’s border crossing. One of the users on this group claimed that he has been in line since 11:30 AM and has made little progress.

Meanwhile, at the Otay Mesa port of entry, the line is currently at Plaza Alameda in Otay. The line’s progress has been described as slower than usual. It should be noted that prolonged exposure to heat and long waiting times could cause a heat stroke, which is why it is essential for drivers, passengers, and even travelers crossing through the pedestrian walkway, to keep themselves hydrated and avoid the sun as much as possible.
