Huge handmade corn tortillas by “Tacos La Pasadita” amaze in Tijuana

The softness and intensity of the maize flavor delighted our host

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos La Pasadita” located at El Chorrito #12745, 20 de Noviembre. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a carne asada taco and an adobada taco priced at $1.7 dollars ($33 pesos).

Asada Taco

This taco has carne asada (grilled beef), guacamole, huevona sauce (onion, tomato, and raw grounded peppers), onion, cilantro, and is served on an enormous handmade corn tortilla. The first thing that Chef Danny noticed was the great size and thickness of the tortilla, which was bigger than our host’s hand.

When he took his first bite, Danny claimed that the tortilla creates a mass just by itself due to its softness, and it also has good humidity and an intense maize flavor. Though the meat had some nerve pieces, it wasn’t hard to chew. The marinated meat’s flavor was quite neutral as well as the huevona sauce. The guacamole did not disappoint since it was pure avocado flesh. The main star of this taco, however, was the tortilla and this is why this taco gets a rating of 8.5.

Price: $1.7 dollars ($33 pesos)

Adobada Taco

This taco has adobada meat, guacamole, onion, coriander, and sauce. Our host stated that, in this show, they are not aiming to mindlessly praise anyone, however, the price-size ratio of this taqueria is very good.

When he took his first bite, Chef Danny claimed that he bit a big chunk of fat, something negative when these meat pieces are very thick, in contrast to when they are thin slices. When he checked the taco he realized that it had two types of cuts. He added that the pale meat color meant that this taco was missing that “push” that gives the achiote, chilis, orange, and pineapple their flavor. Just like with the previous taco, the tortilla was the main highlight as well as the guacamole. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.6.

Price: $1.7 dollars ($33 pesos)
