Baja Californian Governor, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda verified that the Labor Conciliation Center located in Mexicali, and managed by the State Secretariat of Work and Social Welfare (STPS), will carry out its work efficiently, by touring its facilities and receiving updated information about the assistance they offer.

In her speech to labor conciliators and Baja Californian society, Marina del Pilar stated that 8 out of 10 issues that are addressed in the center are resolved through a conciliation between all parties, a trend that has been maintained since its opening last April.

Accompanied by the head of STPS, Alejandro Arregui Ibarra and the Center’s Director, Mónica Primero, the governor highlighted that the new labor reform implies a new era for Baja Californian and Mexican workers.

Marina del Pilar said that there are Labor Conciliation Center’s facilities in Mexicali, Tijuana, Tecate, and Ensenada, as well as an assistance model in the municipality of San Quintin, where there are also indigenous language translators.

Marina del Pilar stated that the labor reform promoted by Mexico’s President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, is marking a before and after regarding worker-employer relations nationally.

“It is a labor justice model that comes from a deep transformation, with a structural root change that breaks with the anachronistic model that we were forced to endure for decades. This means a breath of fresh air for workers and companies,” she said.

She also spoke about the intense work that went into implementing labor reform in Baja California, for example with the creation and functioning of the Labor Conciliation Center and its free support where there has been a commitment made by the state and federal government, as well as the state’s judicial branch.

“Together we were able to conclude, in less than six months, the implementation of a conciliation model promoted by our president and which has started to work in Baja California,” she added.

She encouraged all conciliators to stay motivated to support workers, since their work helps to develop social justice which is a fundamental principle in Andres Manuel López Obrador’s administration’s vision.

“These changes consolidate a nation project vision by the Fourth Transformation and it guarantees social justice in every way, as well as giving stability and certainty to companies,” she said.

Lastly, Marina del Pilar stated that in Baja California a true worker-employer government is being built that prioritizes the wellbeing of workers following social and labor justice perspectives that are an essential part of a historic moment that is happening in the country and the state.
