Two Baja Californian weightlifters, Emmy González and Vanessa Hernández, are heading to the weightlifting world championship.
Emmy González, 2019 world youth champion, wants to win again the Sub 20 World Championship in Heraklion, Greece which will take place between May 2 and May 20. Meanwhile, Vanessa Hernández is ready to win for Mexico the Sub 17 World Championship which will take place in León, Guanajuato, between June 11 and June 18.
González, who won gold in Las Vegas in 2019, will be back in a world championship under Mexico’s colors in the 87-kilogram division.
The capital of Crete island will be the main venue for this world championship by the Weightlifting International Federation where José Manuel Zayas’ student will arrive to the platform with 103 kilos of snatch and 125 kilos of clean and jerk as her best records in an official competition.
“I’m very grateful with God because after these many years I am once again in an international event. I am very happy, very excited on my way to Greece,” said the woman who has been able to get 130 kilos of clean and jerk in training.
She said that she will arrive to the Greek island to repeat her Las Vegas feat, where she became world champion.
“I want to repeat the results that I achieved in Las Vegas where I was world champion,” Emmy González said.
For her part, Vanessa Hernández, who is also a student of Zayas, was 2021 world champion of snatch in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, which is why she is not only trying to get another gold in this competition, but also crown herself in clean and jerk so that she can have three gold medals while competing in the 81-kilogram division.
