Prices of the country’s supermarket products have been a conversation topic in the last few months. The Federal Consumer Agency (PROFECO) reveals the shops and markets in the country where the most consumed items by Mexican families can be obtained at the cheapest and most expensive prices.

This time, the one in charge of sharing this information was Surit Berenice Romero Domínguez, Deputy Services Official, who spoke about the northern area of Mexico which includes the states of Baja California, Tamaulipas, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, and Sonora. She revealed that the Ley supermarket located in the Otay Area of Tijuana, specifically between Blvd. Lázaro Cárdenas and Calz. Tecnológico, is the third most expensive market in the entire northern part of Mexico.

The 21 basic basket products, according to PROFECO, tend to last for a week in a family of 4 people, and can be purchased in this particular market at $940.35 pesos. The complete list of these products is the following:

• Canola or corn oil 1 bottle of 946 ml.
• Rice grains 1 kg.
• Brown sugar 1 kg.
• Beefsteak 1 kg.
• Onion 1 kg.
• Jalapeño pepper 1 kg.
• Pork chops 1 kg.
• Beans 900 grs.
• White chicken eggs 1 package with 18 eggs
• Soap 1 piece
• Tomatoes 1 kg.
• Limes 1 kg.
• Apples 1 kg.
• Oranges 1 kg.
• Bread 1 package of 680 grs.
• Potatoes 1 kg.
• Toilet paper 1 bag with 4 pieces
• Soup pasta 1 package of 220 grs.
• Whole chicken 1 kg.
• Corn tortillas 4kg.
• Carrots 1 kg.

It should be noted that for more than one month Tijuana has led the list of the most expensive supermarkets in northern Mexico. This week, it got lowered to third place in this ranking. One should be aware of this information next week to see if this ranking will remain and if prices will increase or decrease.
