Soft Milanese meat is the highlight in Tijuana’s “Tacos DF”

Chef Danny's first surprise was the beans’ seasoning

In this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host, Chef Danny Betancourt, visited varied tacos taqueria “Tacos DF”, located in Colonia Altabrisa, specifically in Avenida Independencia in Otay. He tasted two tacos here: a traditional stuffed pepper taco priced at $1.5 dollars (30 pesos) and a Milanese taco with marrow in green sauce priced at $1.5 dollars (30 pesos).

Milanese Taco

The first thing that stood out to Chef Danny was the green sauce with a piece of pork rind. Like any other varied taco, it has a bed of rice and beans with two white tortillas with charred sauce.

His first surprise was the beans’ seasoning and the soft texture of the meat. One can’t really feel the tendon, though the sauce did feel a little bit thick due to it being fried. The charred sauce, however, was what gave it the most flavor. The Milanese taco is quite dry, but it does fill you up; the best thing about this taco are the soft Milanese and the tortillas. This is why it gets a rating of 8.0.

Price: $1.5 dollars (30 pesos)

Stuffed Pepper Taco

This taco has two good sized white tortillas, with a bed of rice and beans, a stuffed red pepper with tomato red sauce with cumin, and green sauce. When he took his first bite, Chef Danny felt the spiciness of the red sauce, so he decided not to use any green sauce. The taco is filled with panela cheese, which makes the cheese lose a little bit of flavor for it is battered and that makes it harden. Although one can distinguish the flavors, the taco did not really convince Chef Danny which is why it gets a rating of 7.5 for its delicious tortillas.

Price: $1.5 dollars (30 pesos)
